Forklift Attachments Whitehorse

Forklift Attachments Whitehorse - With a population of about 26,418, Whitehorse is the largest municipality within Yukon. It is situated on the Alaska Highway within the southern part of Yukon. It is likewise the capital city of the territory. By area, the city of Whitehorse is ranked as the 79th largest city in Canada. The Yukon River is bordered by Riverdale on one side and downtown Whitehorse on the other. The name of the city is derived from the White Horse Rapids that used to be near Miles Canyon before the river was dammed. The rapids looked like the mane of a white horse. The weather condition in Whitehorse is much milder as opposed to other northern communities due to its location within the valley. In the summer, there is around 20 hours of daylight.

The city is bounded by mountains on three sides: Haeckel Hill towards the northwest, Golden Horn to the south and Grey Mountain to the east. The construction of a hydroelectric dam in the year 1958 caused the White Horse Rapids to disappear under Schwatka Lake.

During 1896, gold was discovered within the Klondike by Tagish Carlie, George Washington Carmack and Skookum Jim. The first gold seekers arrived via the Chilkoot Pass but by 1897 people were arriving through steamship. Unfortunately, there were several times where boats were lost to the rapids. Five individuals even fell victim to the rapids.

Just west of Whitehorse City lies the Whitehorse Copper Belt, which extends for around 30 km. Prospectors discovered copper there in the initial year of the gold rush. The first claim was declared by Jack McIntyre on July 6, 1898, with Sam McGee claiming the second claim on the 16th of July, the year 1899. Thus, two tram lines were built. One went from the river's east bank to the White Horse Rapids. The other tram ran on the west bank of the river.

The economy within the city of Whitehorse mainly depends on the mining industry, with some of the companies headquartered downtown. As a result, when mining business is not prospering, the city finds itself showing signs of malaise. Unemployment increases and some inhabitants relocate to areas where the work is more reliable.
