Forklift Attachments Yellowknife

Forklift Attachments Yellowknife - Yellowknife is situated on the northern coast of Great Slave Lake within the Northwest Territories and is the capital city of the province. The Arctic Circle lies roughly 400 km north of the city. The Dene tribe of the area, the 'Copper Indians', were responsible for naming the city and the waters in the nearby region. The population within the city of Yellowknife is culturally diverse. There are 11 official languages within the Northwest Territories, but only about five are spoken within Yellowknife. These five include Dene suline, Dogrib, North and South Slavery, French and English.

The region was first settled during the year 1935, when prospectors were drawn to the area when gold was discovered. The city of Yellowknife had grown into the key centre in the region and was established as the capital of the Northwest Territories. The city of Yellowknife was bustling with economic activity that was mainly centered around gold production until the year 1980, when the city of Yellowknife shifted towards being a centre of government services. Because of the plummeting price of gold and the increased operating costs the last gold mine within the city of Yellowknife was closed during the year 2004.

The city of Yellowknife is the central hub for several of the major industries within the territory, such as education, mining, tourism, health, government and commerce activity. Then again, the economy in the city of Yellowknife is still recovering after the closure of numerous gold mines during the 1990's and the downsizing of the government workforce during the year 1999. The diamond boom, that began during 1991 when a diamond mine was discovered just north of the city, has played a major role in the cities recovery. BHP Billiton owns and operates the Ekati Diamond Mine which opened in 1998 and during 2003 Diavik Diamond Mine, a secondary mine, was opened. During the year 2004 Yellowknife was ranked third within Canada with a production value of around C$2.1 billion and 6th within the nation by weight, coming out with 2,524 kg. During 2007 a third mine, De Beers' Snap Lake Diamond Mine, went into production. Construction of a forth mine, likewise owned by De Beers, was started in the year 2010 and is estimated to begin production in 2012.

The top employers within the city of Yellowknife are the Diavik Diamond Mines Incorporated, Territorial and Federal Governments, First Air, Harry Winston Diamond Corporation, the city of Yellowknife, RTL Robinson Trucking, BHP Billiton, and NorthwesTel. Approximately 7,633 jobs are within the Government sector.
